My Experience in the Delivery Room Area

Image
Introduction My practice in the delivery room area was one of the most beautiful and meaningful experiences of my nursing training. Being in this area allowed me to witness one of the most special moments in life: the birth of a baby. From the first day, I understood that this experience would help me grow not only as a student but also as a person. Activity During my practice, I helped prepare the delivery room, checked patients’ vital signs, assisted the nursing staff, and gave emotional support to mothers during labor. I also observed the delivery process and the immediate care of the newborn. Every day was a new opportunity to learn and improve my skills. Reflection This experience taught me that working in the delivery room is not only about medical knowledge, but also about empathy, patience, and emotional support. I learned how important it is to stay calm and provide comfort to mothers during such an intense moment. Seeing a new life come into the world made me feel proud ...

my first nursing practicum

Image
Introduction: Two years ago, I completed my first clinical nursing placement at the Jiquilisco National Hospital. At first, I felt a little nervous, since it was my first placement as a student in that area. I was afraid; my hands even trembled when I had to hold anything. But along with that fear, I also felt joy, because I was going to work with real people, not like at university, where we practiced in laboratories with mannequins, but with real patients. Activity Introduction: Upon arriving at the hospital, the nurse assigned each of us a patient, and we had to be very attentive to their care. Although I felt nervous because I didn't quite know how to write a nursing note, I learned over time. We started taking her vital signs, asking her name and age, and helping her with anything she needed. If she wanted to go to the bathroom, I accompanied her; if she needed a bedpan, I brought it to her. I was very attentive to her: if she couldn't eat, I helped her, held her plate, a...

What Books Can't Teach About Birth

Image
Introduction  My nursing practice took place in the “birth with love” room at the Hospital Nacional San Pedro in November 2025. During this practice, I was in the maternity area. I felt excited and nervous because I wanted to help properly. Description of Activities First, we arrived at 6:30 a.m. and restocked supplies in the area. We also checked expiration dates on materials like alcohol and cotton. After that, we changed the “ice packs” to keep medicines and vaccines, like oxytocin, cold. Then, we monitored maternal vital signs every hour, including blood pressure, temperature, and heart rate, and checked the fetal heart rate every 30 minutes. I also gave short educational talks to patients about basic care. Finally, I witnessed my first childbirth; after the baby was born, I took the newborn’s measurements, gave vaccines (vitamin K and hepatitis B), and checked all vital signs. Reflection I entered the “SNCC” as a student focused on not forgetting any step, but...

Learning to Care: Nursing Practice

Title : Learning to Care: Nursing Practice Introduction About two years ago, I had my first nursing practice at Santa Teresa National Hospital in Zacatecoluca. My first reaction was dissatisfaction because I did not know the place or which bus to take. I felt very scared and nervous. However, I gathered courage and said to myself, “I can do it.” Description of Activities  On the first day of practice, I was nervous, but as the teacher showed us the area and introduced us to the nurses, I felt more confident. My first activities were changing bed sheets, giving gowns to patients, and serving breakfast. Then, the teacher assigned me my first patient. I introduced myself, wrote the nursing note, and took vital signs: blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and pulse. I administered intravenous and oral medications. I also helped the caregiver change the patient and serve food. Finally, we had a conversation with the patient and the caregiver, which was a mean...

My first experience in the neonatal area.

Image
Introduction My experience during my hospital practice in the neonatal area was completely new and beautiful. Even though I had already completed other clinical practices, I felt as if it were my very first day. I was very nervous, but at the same time, I felt a strong sense of happiness and curiosity to enter that area, observe, and learn. I tried to stay focused and calm, reminding myself that everything would go well. Description of Activities While I was in the neonatal unit, the nurse explained in detail the activities we would be doing. As it was my first time there, I felt very nervous and anxious. I started by taking vital signs, writing nursing notes, and providing information to mothers about positions that can help speed up dilation. My colleagues also gave talks on nutrition, breastfeeding, and other related topics. However, what excited me the most and made me feel very happy was witnessing my first birth. Despite my great joy, I also felt nervous. We provided consta...
