My First Hospital Experience 🌷
Introduction
My first nursing practice was two years ago at Hospital San Pedro in Usulután. It was my first approach to a real medical environment. I felt a little nervous, but very happy and full of excitement. I really wanted to learn and do my best.
Activities
First, I helped prepare the patient rooms and organized clean sheets and pillows. Then, I assisted in checking basic supplies such as gloves, masks, and thermometers.
After that, I observed how nurses administered medication to patients and recorded important information in their charts. Later, I learned how to help patients move carefully from the bed to a wheelchair. I also practiced proper handwashing techniques and learned how to dispose of medical waste correctly.
Reflection
This experience was wonderful for me. It was my first practice, and I learned a lot, since this profession requires patience, responsibility, and kindness. I learned what it means to understand, support, and show empathy toward patients. I also learned that teamwork is very important in a hospital, as everyone must cooperate. At first, I was shy, but later I became more confident, motivated myself, and made an effort to keep going, understanding and learning more each day in order to become a great nurse.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my first nursing practice was life-changing. At first, I doubted myself, but I learned to stay positive, trust myself, and overcome my fears. I developed empathy and realized that a smile can really lift a patient’s mood. I am committed to continuing to learn and becoming a great nurse.
